A new Nol card has been announced offering exclusive benefits for school and university students. The card offers students discounts of up to 50 percent on public transport fares in Dubai. Students can also enjoy discounts of up to 70 percent and promotional offers when purchasing items at outlets, including school and university canteens, that accept Nol cards as payment.

Salah Almarzooqi, director of the Department of Automated Collection Systems, Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), told Khaleej Times that the aim is to implement the new card from the new academic year (September 2024).

Students can apply for the card through the Nol Pay app and it will be delivered to their home. Users who already have a Nol student card can upgrade to the new one once it is launched.

Several students in Dubai use public transport to travel between their homes and schools or universities. Currently, students get a personalized blue card by presenting their Emirates ID and student ID. Include their names and photographs.

The new Nol card will also serve as an internationally accepted student ID card, providing access to thousands of ISIC benefits, services and discounts around the world.

During the Mena Transport Congress and Exhibition, an agreement to launch the new card was signed between the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) and the ISIC Association.

According to its website, the ISIC card is the only “internationally accepted student identity card that provides verification of student status, thousands of discounts worldwide, and access to the global student community.”

Mohammed Al Mudharreb, CEO of RTA’s Corporate Technology Support Services Sector, said the partnership focuses on “enriching students’ daily commutes across RTA’s public transportation network, including subways, trams, buses and Marine transport”.

“The card also facilitates payments in retail stores and in school and university cafeterias.”

The new Nol card allows parents of students to manage their children’s accounts. “This includes topping up the card balance and monitoring your children’s daily spending limits,” Al Mudharreb said.
