RTA and Terminus Group sign memorandum of understanding for trial operation of intelligent robot to monitor soft mobility means in Dubai

His Excellency Mattar Al Tayer, Director General, Chairman of the Board of Chief Executive Officers of the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) witnessed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with terminal group, a leading provider of robotics and advanced technical systems.

The MoU marks the beginning of the trial operation of an intelligent robot tasked with monitoring and detecting violations related to soft mobility means in Dubai, starting in March 2024.

The signing of the MoU took place during the fifth edition of MENA 2024 Transport Congress and Exhibition by Ahmed Mahboub, Acting CEO of Strategy and Corporate Governance Sector, RTA, and Dr. Ling Shao, President of Terminus International and Chief Scientist of Terminus Group.

The agreement provides for the start of a test operation of the intelligent robot responsible for monitoring and detecting violations related to soft mobility means in Dubai, in coordination with Dubai Police. The initial phase of the trial operation will begin in the Jumeirah 3 beach area to study the impact of the application and its potential for wider deployment in the future. This innovative project is aligned with RTAThe objectives of ensuring fluid and sustainable mobility, improving the transportation network through smart and innovative solutions and positioning Dubai as the pioneer city in the region in the use of robots to monitor soft mobility users.

RTA emphasized the importance of this initiative, highlighting its alignment with government efforts to enhance Dubai’s status as a leader among the world’s smartest cities. This move is also in line with the UAE’s vision of becoming a global leader in artificial intelligence by 2031. The initiative seeks to modernize traditional surveillance methods by introducing intelligent robots for real-time monitoring of media. soft mobility and the use of artificial intelligence techniques to detect violations. This innovative approach will integrate directly with RTAEnterprise Command and Control Center (EC3).

The intelligent robot will monitor the use of soft mobility means, such as bicycles and electric scooters, detecting violations, sharing them and analyzing them in collaboration with Dubai Police. Using artificial intelligence, the robot will identify a variety of violations, including large gatherings, failure to comply with personal safety protocols such as the use of helmets, abandonment of scooters in unauthorized areas, use of scooters by multiple users, and use of scooters in exclusive areas for pedestrians.

The robot has cutting-edge technology and meets the highest safety standards. It can identify violations with over 85% accuracy, deliver data in 5 seconds, and has a surveillance range of up to 2 kilometers. The robot is also designed to operate efficiently in various weather conditions and is equipped with sensors that trigger a stop when it comes within 1.5 meters of any object or individual, ensuring the safety of all road users in Dubai.
