Public parking will be free in Sharjah on the first, second and third days of Eid Al Fitr, authorities announced.

However, charges will continue to be charged in parking areas with blue signs. These spaces are subject to payment every day of the week, including Fridays and holidays.

Obaid Saeed Al Tunaiji, director general of Sharjah City Municipality, confirmed the free parking schedule while reporting on the emirate’s preparations for the holiday.

Parking inspectors will be deployed during the holidays to detect violations, he said. Common crimes include:

  • Occupying more than one parking space
  • Parking randomly behind vehicles
  • obstruct traffic

Special teams will work to secure Eid prayer halls and ensure adequate parking is provided to worshipers, Al Tunaiji said.

Public transport

Commuters, on the other hand, can expect more frequent bus trips as the Sharjah Roads and Transport Authority (SRTA) expanded its fleet of services for the Eid Al Fitr holiday.

From April 9 to 12, a total of 789 intercity buses will serve passengers, raising the number of daily trips to 6,330, the SRTA reported.

Intercity passenger transfers will begin at Jubail station for all routes from 3:45 a.m. to 12:30 a.m. to ensure a safe and comfortable experience during Eid.

Route 203 has been assigned to transport passengers between Sharjah and Muscat, Oman, twice a day: the first at 6.30 am and the second at 4 pm Tickets can be booked through the Amman Telecom platform or in the store from Jubail bus station.

Ensure public safety

Sharjah City Municipality has assigned 43 teams to monitor establishments and entertainment venues to ensure compliance with laws. Inspectors will check popular locations such as parks, beaches, restaurants, bakeries, beauty salons and barbershops, Al Tunaiji said.

The local civic body asked the public to contact its 24/7 hotline at 993 to report any violation or observation.
