Indonesian expats in the UAE celebrated Eid Al Fitr with prayers at mosques, family gatherings, bonding over food, and following traditions such as Halal Bihalal celebrations.

Wednesday was the first time the Eid prayer was held at President Joko Widodo’s mosque. The new mosque, built and named after the president of Indonesia, was officially opened to the public in December last year. The mosque, located in the diplomatic area of Abu Dhabi, is on the street named after the president of Indonesia.

The morning prayer was led by Imam Salman Al Farisi from the Indonesian city of Pontianak. Expatriates from Indonesia, Emiratis and other nationalities attended, including Indians, Pakistanis and Bangladeshis.

Later, Halal Bihalal, a special traditional event to show respect and forgive others, was celebrated at the Indonesian Embassy.

In his speech, Husin Bagis, Indonesian ambassador to the UAE, urged members of the community not only to celebrate the victory day and forgive each other, but also to continue improving their services to others in the country. .

He highlighted the importance of improving bilateral relations and close cooperation between Indonesia and the United Arab Emirates in various sectors.

The Halal Bihalal event was attended by around 1,000 Indonesian expatriates. Additionally, 26 members of the Indonesian National Armed Forces, who were in transit after completing a humanitarian mission in Gaza, attended the event.

Community members bonded over food and enjoyed vegetable lontong and chicken opor. They were entertained with Islamic religious songs sung by Indonesian musicians residing in Abu Dhabi.

Bagis hoped that the event would further strengthen the bonds of camaraderie between Indonesian and other expatriates while promoting the values of kindness and cooperation that underpin strong bilateral relations.
