Abu Dhabi: As part of its ongoing ‘Tarahum for Gaza’ campaign, the United Arab Emirates today sent a plane carrying 68 tonnes of food supplies and humanitarian aid to Al Areesh, Egypt, in preparation for its transport to the Gaza Strip via of the Rafah border crossing, in cooperation with the United Nations World Food Program (WFP).

The shipment is part of the UAE’s ongoing humanitarian efforts to alleviate the suffering of the Palestinian people affected by the ongoing conflict and aims to support the global campaign to provide humanitarian and relief aid to the Palestinian people.

Sultan Al Shamsi, Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs for Development and International Organization Affairs, said: “As part of the UAE’s ongoing efforts to provide relief support to the Palestinian people, we are working on several fronts to provide humanitarian support. and relief to our Palestinian people. brothers and sisters in the Gaza Strip, through our cooperation with international organizations, including the WFP.”

He added: “To that end, urgent food supplies have been sent to prepare for transport to the Gaza Strip and, on another front, with the launch of the Tarahum – for Gaza campaign, we are working to mobilize community efforts across all sectors and in the UAE community. segments, including humanitarian and charitable organizations and volunteering platforms.”

Al Shamsi said that as part of the drive to ensure the highest levels of community participation, the campaign continues to organize new events, with three events taking place: Saturday from 9am to 2pm at Qalaat Al Remal, Dubai , which will be supervised. by Dubai Cares, and on Sunday from 9am to 2pm, one supervised by the Emirates Red Crescent at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Center (ADNEC) in Abu Dhabi, and another supervised by Sharjah Charity International (SCI) at Expo Center Sharjah.

The events aim to prepare 25,000 aid packages with the support of volunteers from all over the UAE, including citizens and residents, as well as many public and private institutions, he explained.

The United Arab Emirates and its wise leaders are steadfast in their efforts to support and deliver urgent aid to the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip, in line with the country’s commitment to supporting friendly peoples in times of crisis and the values ​​they uphold. the leadership and community of the United Arab Emirates. .

The campaign aims to mitigate the severity of humanitarian conditions and alleviate the suffering of the most vulnerable groups, especially children, who make up almost half of the population of the Gaza Strip. More than 1 million children are affected by the current conflict, and the campaign will work to meet the basic needs of children and mothers, as well as providing health supplies and general hygiene materials.

These new events follow the successful first day of the campaign, on October 15 at Abu Dhabi Ports Hall in Mina Zayed, where more than 4,500 volunteers prepared 13,000 aid packages, including hampers and food parcels, for children, mothers and women. The campaign is supervised by the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs in cooperation with the Emirates Red Crescent Authority and the World Food Programme, and in coordination with the Ministry of Community Development. In addition, 20 humanitarian and relief institutions participate.
