There are strict rules to ensure fire safety throughout the UAE, and violations are punishable by heavy fines. On Tuesday, Abu Dhabi Civil Defense issued a notice reminding residents of the need to maintain free access to firefighting equipment.

It is mandatory that all buildings in the country have fire fighting equipment installed, from alarms to fire extinguishers and adequate exits.

In its notice, Abu Dhabi Civil Defense highlighted that in addition to making this equipment available, it must also be accessible.

The “presence of obstacles that hinder access to fire extinguishing devices and equipment inside a building” constitutes a serious violation, he stated.

This, he added, is punished with a fine of 2,000 dirhams.

Hours earlier, the emirate’s authorities put out a fire that broke out in a building. Residents were evacuated quickly and no injuries were reported. An investigation is underway to determine the cause of the fire.
