A determined 22-year-old missing person was found today in a Sharjah hospital after a rigorous 38-hour search.
The family of missing Saqlain Munir, a Norwegian citizen visiting the United Arab Emirates, thanked the Sharjah police for their quick action. “We received a phone call from the police informing us about his whereabouts on Saturday noon,” said Azhar Munir, Saqlain’s father. Khaleej Times.
Saqlain went missing on Thursday at 10pm, prompting his family to launch a frantic search, especially given his condition.
“Saqlain doesn’t talk to anyone. We were continuously calling his phone, but he was switched off,” Azhar said.
The father and son flew to the UAE from Norway for a holiday “to mentally recharge Saqlain ahead of his treatment in Pakistan”. They arrived in the country on November 30 and were scheduled to leave for Pakistan today, December 9.
What happened to him
Azhar and Saqlain are staying with a relative who lives in the Al Qasimiya neighborhood of Sharjah.

On Thursday night, Azhar had to go to Dubai for work. The quick trip, however, took longer than expected as he stopped at a restaurant to get takeout. “That was the delay. He never left him alone,” Azhar said.
During that time, Saqlain stayed at home with his cousin. “When his cousin went to dinner at a nearby restaurant, Saqlain ran away from the house with her mobile phone and without his wallet. He was wearing a traditional Pakistani dress. kurta pajamas,” Azhar said.
Then the search began. “We filed a missing person report at a Sharjah police station and notified the relevant authorities,” the father said.
“On Friday afternoon, someone who had found him near the Kasba canal turned on his phone. We met that person to ask him for more information about Saqlain. But that man just found the phone,” he added.
Thirty-eight hours later, Sharjah police brought them the good news. “We are deeply grateful to the Sharjah police for their quick action in locating Saqlain,” said Hameed Basheer, the young man’s uncle.
