FAB and Emirates Foundation launch multi-year partnership to drive climate action

First Abu Dhabi Bank (FAB) has joined forces with Emirates Foundation in a comprehensive multi-year partnership that will spur understanding and action on climate change and sustainability across the UAE community.

The signing of the partnership agreement was witnessed by His Highness Sheikh Theyab bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Emirates Foundation; Ahmed Ali Al Sayegh, Minister of State; and Hana Al Rostamani, CEO of FAB Group.

The partnership was signed by Ahmed Al Shamsi, CEO of the Emirates Foundation; and Futoon Al Mazrouei, head of FAB’s consumer banking group in the United Arab Emirates.

The joint program to increase climate-conscious behaviors will affect all levels of UAE society, from residents to schools and businesses. It includes five main streams of work: engaging communities and businesses at key touchpoints, including workplaces and public spaces; organize nationwide events on climate awareness; offer climate-friendly controls to measure and reduce carbon footprint; next generation climate engagement activities for schools; and building a national platform of “climate conscious communities.”

The long-term programme, which is expected to take place over several years, was announced at the UN Climate Change Conference (COP28) earlier today.

The first initiative of the program includes a Carbon Literacy Program educate and empower various segments of the UAE, including school and university students, government and private sector employees, community groups and senior citizens. The Carbon Literacy Programme, which will also help participants understand, measure and reduce their carbon footprint, aims to reach 100 UAE schools by 2024.

A strategic partner on the path of COP28, fabulous led multiple activities focused on sustainability and climate throughout the conference and announced a series of new initiatives including almost doubling its sustainable financing target by 2030, new climate and sustainability initiatives focused on SMEs, an increase in its activities in the carbon market, as well as ecosystem protection programs.
