Careem launches Dubai’s first fleet of electric motorcycles with charging infrastructure for deliveries

The motorcycles have battery packs that can be charged at more than 190 Careem bike stations across Dubai.

careemThe region’s leading multi-service platform introduces Dubai’s first fleet of electric delivery motorcycles supported by electric charging infrastructure at Careem Bike stations.

The fleet of electric delivery motorcycles and the charging station infrastructure will be available for careem Delivery captains in Dubai through a subscription model that offers savings of up to 50 percent compared to gasoline. The electric motors are powered by 4,000-watt lithium batteries that can be charged at more than 192 Careem stations across Dubai. Each motorcycle has capacity for two batteries with a capacity of 2,000 watts each.

With a weight of 130 kg, wider wheels and a maximum speed of 80 km/h, electric motorcycles are safer, quieter and easier to ride than traditional gasoline motorcycles. They will be used by careem‘s Quik Grocery delivery captains at the launch before they are rolled out for use on Careem Food and Careem Box delivery services.

Mudassir Sheikha, CEO and Co-Founder of Careem, saying:

As the E regionall appoffering multiple everyday services including delivery and ride-sharing, careem is committed to having a positive impact on the environment and the communities in which it exists. In the UAE, Careem has taken important steps including actively increasing the number of electric and hybrid vehicles on the platform. In 2023, more than half of the trips taken on Careem in the UAE were made in hybrid or electric vehicles.
