TDRA and Dubai Maritime Authority to streamline maritime vessel authorizations

The Telecommunications and Digital Government Regulatory Authority (TDRA) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Dubai Maritime Authority of Dubai Ports, Customs and Free Zones Corporation (PCFC).

This partnership marks a significant step in improving the regulatory framework for maritime commercial operations to improve efficiency in the sector.

The MoU establishes a simplified and consistent procedure for acquiring the necessary authorizations for maritime vessels through the Dubai Maritime Authority. He TDRA focuses on simplifying the process of granting authorizations for wireless devices for recreational marine vessels exceeding 10.6 meters in length, as well as all classes of commercial marine vessels operating within the territorial waters of the UAE.

Majed Sultan Al Mesmar, Director General of TDRA, fixed,

“Our collaboration with Dubai PCFC aligns perfectly with our shared objectives, in harmony with the ‘We, UAE 2031’ vision and the directives of our wise leadership. These goals emphasize the imperative of synergizing efforts to establish a cohesive digital ecosystem that fosters a knowledge-based society and economy at the national level. We highly value the dedication of PCFC officials to leverage TDRA’s role as an enabler of digital transformation. We affirm our unwavering willingness to collaborate with federal and local entities on all projects and initiatives to shape the imagined digital future.”

Sheikh Dr. Saeed bin Ahmed bin Khalifa Al Maktoum, Executive Director of Dubai Maritime City Authority, stated that the MoU would ensure the TDRA Worked closely with all government entities to optimize service request processes for better customer experience within the Government of Dubai. He said that the registration and licensing of maritime vessels are subject to evaluations to verify their compliance with approved technical specifications and adherence to maritime standards, requirements and regulations. These measures are crucial to ensure the safety of ship users.

This collaboration coincides with substantial growth in the UAE maritime sector, characterized by increased demand for wireless device licenses and authorizations. This increased demand requires more efficient regulatory procedures than ever. With the implementation of this partnership, maritime industry stakeholders can look forward to a simplified, efficient and hassle-free licensing process.
