Abu Dhabi urges non-governmental organizations to obtain licenses to offer social services

Abu Dhabi has more than 143 institutions, including 91 licensed non-governmental organizations in the emirate.

They include civil society foundations, social clubs, social security funds, cultural and public interest associations, theater and popular art associations and professional associations, as well as social enterprises.

In this context, Mubarak Salem Al Ameri, Executive Director of DCD’s Social Licensing and Control Sector, highlighted the fundamental role of licensing in safeguarding the rights of Public Interest Associations and non-governmental organizations.

He also highlighted the importance of organizing its operations within the framework of relevant legislation, policies and laws, highlighting the Department’s dedication to the development and delivery of its services.

CDA’s commitment is aligned with the highest international standards, reflects the fundamental values ​​and principles of Abu Dhabi society and contributes to the overall improvement of the quality of life of all segments of society.

Al Ameri said: “In the context of trying to organize social work and supervise events and activities carried out within this framework, the department actively encourages non-governmental organizations to obtain a license to operate in accordance with legislation and regulations. relevant laws. This is done with the aim of facilitating the work of these Public Interest Associations, supporting them in achieving their objectives and providing them with the necessary services and requirements.

“In particular, 91 non-governmental organizations have obtained licenses in Abu Dhabi since the inception of this service. During the first half of this year, licenses were issued covering nine public interest associations and three civil society foundations serving public benefits and one permit for a civil society organization, focusing on various fields such as art, culture, volunteer work, youth empowerment, caring for determined people and integrating them into society.”

He added: “At least 52 inspection visits were organized for non-governmental organizations in 2023, in addition to the attendance and management of 55 annual general meetings in Abu Dhabi.”

The DCD Licensing and Social Control Sector is responsible for preparing strategic and operational plans related to licensing and monitoring activities in the social sector. The sector is also responsible for monitoring licensed establishments, preparing and implementing a system for licensing third sector institutions, places of worship for non-Muslims and community contribution activities in the emirate in coordination with stakeholders.
