Life inside: what it’s like to live in the Burj Khalifa – News

When Dr. Ebrahim, judicial property expert, returns home after traveling throughout the UAE, he does not have to worry about parking his car or washing it. This is because the concierge at the Burj Khalifa takes care of it and that is one of the things he likes most about living in the iconic tower.
“It’s the little things that make a big difference,” said the Emirati. “Like when I want to go pray in the morning and I come down, the car is ready waiting for me at the reception. If I have friends, I can meet them in the hall on level 123. And to be honest, you never have to leave the tower if you don’t want to. From ATMs to gyms and supermarkets, everything you need is inside the Burj Khalifa.”
Inaugurated on January 4, 2010 to become the tallest tower in the world, Burj Khalifa celebrates its 14th anniversary this year. With a design derived from the Islamic architecture of the region, the tower has become an architectural marvel and has won several awards.
Over the past 14 years, the tower and its surroundings have become the center of Dubai, attracting millions of visitors each year. Their spectacular New Year’s fireworks are world famous and highly anticipated, with some willing to shell out thousands of dirhams to watch them from the front seat. Khaleej Times spoke to some tower residents about what it’s like to live in the world’s tallest tower.
‘Personal’ source
For Dr. Ebrahim, who lives on the 27th floor, the fountain is one of his favorite elements. “By staying on one of the lower floors, I have a beautiful view of the fountain,” he said. “For my friends’ birthdays, I share the font on Snapchat, mix it with his favorite song and send it to him as a wish. Many of them have told me that they look forward to my wish every year. “It’s almost like having my own personal fountain.”
Having lived in the tower for more than five years, Dr. Ebrahim said he loves its central location. “Whenever I have to meet friends or family of people visiting the UAE, I always ask them to come to Dubai Mall,” he said. “It is easy to access and central for everyone. “Sometimes we sit in the lounge on the 123rd floor and enjoy the view.”
Dr. Ebrahim also enjoys the New Year’s Eve fireworks. “I was in London for work during the month of December,” he said. “But I returned to Dubai just before the end of the month because there’s no way I’m going to miss the Burj Khalifa fireworks for the world.”
Optimized security
Meanwhile, for Indian expat Salim Moopen, the highlight is the security the tower offers. “Not a single person will be able to enter the building without our knowledge,” he said. “For someone who travels a lot around the world, this is very important to me. Every security system is optimized and I don’t receive unknown or unwanted visitors.”
Salim, who recently moved from the 85th floor to the 47th, said he enjoys the lower level more because of a better view. “When you’re higher up, you can’t see the fountain well, but lower down, the view of the fountain is much better,” he said. “I also really enjoy when my friends and family come to visit me and I get to take them around the tower. The way their faces light up and their eyes shine when they see the views from here warms my heart.”
He is also a big fan of New Year’s fireworks. “We have a place in Burj Park reserved for residents,” he said. “My family and I gathered with our mats in the area and enjoyed the show together. This has been our ritual for many years and is one of the times of year I always look forward to.”
