A UAE citizen and his wife receive 66 years in prison and a fine of Dh39 million after being convicted in 12 cases – News

A citizen, his wife and 16 other defendants of different nationalities have been convicted in 12 cases of damage to public funds, forgery, bribery, speculation, appropriation, commercial fraud and tampering with a public facility.

The Abu Dhabi Court of Cassation sentenced the first defendant and his wife to 66 years in prison and fined them 39 million dirhams.

The court also sentenced the other defendants to prison. His sentence ranges between three and 15 years. They have also been fined a total of 13 million dirhams.

The ruling came after the Public Ministry referred the defendants for establishing private warehouses, storing expired food and other consumer materials and reselling them by illegally modifying the expiration dates of those products.

The defendants altered the main characteristics and expiration dates, provided incorrect and misleading commercial data about the products, including organic food products, endangering people’s health and lives.

In addition, they promoted adulterated expired products through misleading advertising with incorrect information that sought to induce the public to purchase said products, claiming that they are of good quality and suitable for consumption.

They have also been convicted of: soliciting and accepting gifts in exchange for exerting alleged influence by claiming that they could intervene with a public authority to obtain an advantage; laying a water pipe to connect a property in breach of regulations and without installing a meter; destroy pipes belonging to the body responsible for water distribution by connecting a farm water pipe to the main pipe; resulting in a reduction in water flow and disrupting the activities of the public body.

They also intentionally caused damage to electrical equipment in six properties of the first defendant by disconnecting the main protection of the electrical panel. This caused a short circuit and led to interruption of power supply provided by the public body and cutting off power supply to other beneficiaries.

Furthermore, they intentionally committed an act that would endanger the lives of other people by randomly disconnecting and connecting the cables of the electrical panels on the properties of the first defendant in violation of the conditions and regulations, an act that could entail the risk of an electrical leak. and ignition, resulting in serious damage.

The defendants also attempted to take over the public road that separates two agricultural farms and disrupt public transportation by merging the two farms, illegally using the road that separates the two farms, as well as falsifying official documents and electronic files that they used to commit these crimes. .
