RTA records 25% growth in passenger transportation permits issued in 2023

In 2023, Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) issued 67,341 permits to practice the profession of passenger transportation.

The figure includes 6,883 permits for school transport drivers, 20,483 permits for limousine drivers, 30,215 permits for taxi drivers, 6,813 permits for school transport assistants and 2,947 permits for Naqel service, which facilitates the transportation of passengers from other emirates to Dubai.

The issuance of permits to practice the profession of passenger transport achieved a growth rate of around 25% in 2023, compared to 2022, and an increase of 69% compared to 2021.

Sultan Al Akraf, Director of Driver Affairs, Public Transport Agency, RTA saying:

“The issuance of 67,341 permits in 2023 to pursue passenger transportation professions, including school transportation assistants, was a direct response to the increasing demand and steady growth of driver training, qualification and licensing services associated with transportation. in franchising, limousines and school transportation companies.”

Keep pace with this growth in training and qualification programs carried out in collaboration with new institutes such as the Belhasa Institute, the Emirates Transport Driving Institute and the Eco-Drive Driving Institute. These institutes contributed to training and qualifying drivers to meet the growing demand experienced by passenger transport companies across the emirate.

RTA directly supervises the training and qualification of drivers, facilitated through training courses carried out in coordination with the competent authorities, while RTAAccredited driving institutes in Spain offer training and qualifications to drivers.

Drivers and passenger transport assistants are undergoing a variety of basic, complementary and rehabilitation courses, all of which are internationally accredited and supported by globally recognized urban transport institutions, including the prestigious British Royal Society for Accident Prevention (RoSPA).

The issuance of certificates for the profession in Dubai has seen steady growth in recent years. The figures and percentages recorded until the end of 2023 reflect the vigorous economic activity of the emirate and consolidate its position as the main global destination for investment and tourism.
