13 parking violations, penalties you should know

Have you ever received a parking ticket in Dubai and wondered why you were penalized? You thought no rules had been broken, but can you be absolutely sure?

Dubai Highways and Transportation Authority enforces strict parking rules and issues fines to violators. Disorderly or illegal parking can obstruct the flow of vehicle and pedestrian traffic and can block access to fire hydrants. It is important to know these parking rules to avoid incurring unnecessary charges.

Below is a list of parking fines in Dubai. Please note that this list may not cover all fines and enforcement criteria are subject to change at the discretion of authorities.

Parking a vehicle without a license plate number 1,000 dirhams
Unauthorized use of parking by determined individuals, or use of an expired permit or a permit that is not clearly visible. 1,000 dirhams
Parking a vehicle in the parking reserve or not presenting the permit 1,000 dirhams
Demonstration of vehicles for sale or rent in a restricted area 1,000 dirhams
Implement parking umbrella without permit 1,000 dirhams
Broken or damaged parking lot, ticket machines or zone plates 1,000 dirhams
Removing parking lots, ticket machines or zone plates without permission 10,000 dirhams

The UAE federal traffic laws list various violations and fines related to parking or stopping. In addition, some more serious ones specify black points on the driving license as an additional penalty.

  • Parking behind vehicles and blocking their circulation: fine of 500 dirhams
  • Parking without securing the vehicle: fine of 500 dirhams
  • Parking vehicles on sidewalks: fine of 400 dirhams
  • Stopping a vehicle in a way that blocks the movement of pedestrians: fine of 400 dirhams
  • Parking in front of fire hydrants: fine of 1,000 dirhams and 6 black points
  • Parking in spaces reserved for people with special needs: fine of 1,000 dirhams, 6 black points
  • Stopping in the middle of the road without reason: fine of 1,000 dirhams, 6 black points
  • Stopping at the yellow box intersection: fine of 500 dirhams
  • Stopping the vehicle in prohibited areas on the left shoulder of the public road: fine of 1,000 dirhams
