On Tuesday, police shared a 45-second clip highlighting the dangers of stopping in the middle of a road. Footage showed four separate incidents where drivers stopped illegally on the road, resulting in horrific multi-vehicle collisions.
Surveillance video showed other cars trying to avoid collisions and change lanes, but they were unable to stop due to the high speed limit on the freeway and crashed into the vehicle or other passing cars.

In the first case, an SUV stopped in the middle of the road with its emergency lights on after a part of the vehicle fell off. Subsequently, a van hit him from behind, propelling him several meters and causing a chain reaction that involved other vehicles, causing new collisions.
In the second scenario, four cars crashed into each other after a 4×4 vehicle suddenly stopped in the middle of the road. The images also showed a truck stopped on the road. Although a car tried to maneuver into another lane to avoid an accident, it was unable to do so in time, leading to a series of collisions.

Police emphasized that motorists should refrain from stopping in the middle of the road under any circumstances. According to federal traffic laws, this violation carries a fine of 1,000 dirhams and six black points. In addition to the fine, it can also irreparably damage the car and be fatal.
Drivers are advised to stop at the nearest exit to ensure the safety of road users. If you cannot move the car, you must immediately contact the emergency services on 999.
Brigadier Mahmoud Yousef Al Balushi, director of the Directorate of Traffic and Safety Patrols, asked drivers to take specific measures in the event of sudden vehicle breakdowns. He urged drivers to prioritize safety by moving their vehicles out of traffic lanes and using designated emergency areas. Only in urgent situations should drivers use the right shoulder of the road, activating warning signs in all four directions to alert nearby vehicles.
He stressed the importance of placing emergency reflective triangles at a considerable distance behind the disabled vehicle to warn approaching drivers. He advised not to remain inside the vehicle or on the road, prioritizing the safety of both the driver and passengers. In the event of an emergency, drivers should immediately dial 999 for assistance.
Drivers were reminded not to be distracted and to maintain concentration while driving, ensuring full concentration to resolve any vehicle malfunctions promptly. Neglecting care in such situations could lead to traffic accidents, often resulting in deaths and serious injuries.
