Taxi fares in and around Dubai’s fireworks venues will increase, with the introduction of a new flag-lowering fee set at Dh20, the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) announced on Friday.
Dynamic rates (up to two times the original prices) will be applied on Hala Taxi services on New Year’s Eve. These rates will be in effect from 6 pm on Sunday, December 31 until 6 am the next day at fireworks sites.
Taxi fares in Dubai depend on the type of taxi, pick-up location, trip duration and distance travelled. The normal minimum taxi fare or drop-off fare in Dubai is Dh12 with an additional Dh1.97 per kilometer.
Adjust during important events.
According to RTA, the introduction of new reduced fares for both regular metered taxis and the Hala Taxi service will apply during the days of major events, exhibitions and international conventions at venues such as the World Trade Center, Expo City and Global Village.
RTA said in a statement: “Through these changes, (our goal) is to continually improve and develop both the regular taxi services and the Hala Taxi e-ride, especially during important events such as New Year’s Eve, which normally sees a significant increase in demand for taxi services from residents, visitors and tourists traveling to Dubai from all over the world.”
