Mediclinic Middle East highlighted Mediclinic City Hospital’s achievements in kidney transplantation at the Organ Donation and Transplantation Congress 2024, held at the Conrad Hotel, Dubai, from January 27 to 30. The conference brought together transplant surgery experts from around the world to discuss the latest advances in this specialized area of medicine and raise awareness of the UAE’s national organ donation programme, Hayat. Dr. Waldo Concepción, Specialist Transplant Surgeon, and Dr. Farhad Janahi, Consultant Urologist, presented the achievements of Mediclinic City Hospital, which is one of the leading kidney transplant centers in the UAE.

Mediclinic City Hospital’s transplant center enjoys a strong and supportive partnership with Mohammed Bin Rashid University (MBRU) and Al Jalila Children’s Specialty Hospital. Together, the teams play an important role in pushing transplants to the forefront of healthcare, helping in the process to raise awareness of national laws on organ donation and transplantation and making the service available to citizens and UAE residents.

The Mediclinic City Hospital unit offers patients suffering from end-stage renal disease an alternative to dialysis, which in turn provides them with a better quality of life. The unit performs deceased donor and living donor transplants, offering families the opportunity to explore the option of being a living kidney donor. The transplant team provides quality, comprehensive, multidisciplinary care to potential transplant recipients and donors, from the initial consultation to completion of donation or transplant, and beyond.

“I am delighted to represent Mediclinic at this important event to showcase the importance of organ transplantation and shed light on the progress the UAE has made in this area in recent years,” said Dr Concepción. “It is a privilege for me to have been part of this journey.”

Mediclinic Middle East was a silver sponsor of the Organ Donation and Transplantation Congress 2024.

“The work we do would not be possible without those who have given their selfless consent to become organ donors, whether as living donors for a family member in need or as deceased donors,” added Dr. Janahi. “I urge everyone to consider organ donation as you have the power to save countless lives. Make sure you sign up for Hayat’s organ donation program.”
