Dubai Municipality offers guidance to businesses on banning single-use plastics

Dubai Municipality (DM) has released additional guidance for businesses on the ban on single-use plastics that was issued in January following a resolution by His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Executive Council of Dubai.

The resolution was introduced to protect the environment by minimizing plastic waste by changing consumer habits and encouraging a recycling culture among businesses and the community.

Dubai Municipality published an awareness guide on the initiative within the framework of its #DubaiMoreSustainable campaign, which was launched in COP28. The guide has now been expanded with more information and frequently asked questions to help people and businesses comply with the new rules.

It is aimed at individuals, public sector entities, private companies, corporations and institutions, promoting sustainable daily practices at work and home in line with Dubai Municipality efforts to improve quality of life and sustainability.

The measure not only helps safeguard the environment, but also supports the development of a circular economy, sustainable development and the preservation of natural resources for future generations.

The guide, available online in Arabic and English, answers important questions consumers and businesses may have about the ban. It also highlights eco-friendly alternatives to plastics along with tips on how to be more sustainable.
